Tropical storm (called Typhoons in Asia) Kammuri hit Hong Kong and South China early Wednesday, damaging the Sha Tin Olympic Equestrian facility. All of the horses housed there are safe, however.

The Olympic athletes are beginning to arrive in China. Among the first are the equestrian athletes who will be competing in Hong Kong. The United States Olympic Dressage trials conclude their two weekend event June 27-29 in San Juan Capistrano, California. Three rider/horse combinations will be chosen to compete in Beijing.
Attempting to quality on two different horses is former Olympian Debbie McDonald (pictured above). McDonald won the bronze medal in Athens in 2004 on her horse, Brentina.

Zara Phillips, the grandaughter of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, withdrew from the British Olympic Equestrian team yesterday after her horse, Toytown injured himself in practice. The horse is expected to fully recover, but not in time for the Beijing Olympics.

The Equestrian judging is based on a points system; the lowest score wins.
