USA Wins Equestrian Gold in Jump-Off
The Americans may have had a solid lead coming into the final day of the equestrian jumping competition, but the Canadians brought their best effort today, moving from fourth to tie for first at the end of the regular competition. Anchored by 61-year-old Ian Miller, the Canadian riders had two clear rides and one four-penalty ride in the final round, compared to the United States’ one clear ride.
The jump-off couldn’t have been closer. All three US riders had clear rides as well as two of the three Canadian riders. The third rider for Canada dropped a rail, leaving them with Silver instead of Gold. Norway earned the Bronze Medal.
The German team, who have shown so well during the Games, were never in contention for a jumping medal and finished fifth.
