Portugal’s Nelson Evora won the men’s triple jump at the 2008 Beijing Summer Games yesterday when he hopped, skipped and jumped 17.67m to claim the Olympic title. It was a significant win since it is the first gold medal for the European nation in 12 years.
It was a really close match! Phillips Idowu of Great Britain claimed silver with a best of 17.62m while Bahamian, Leevan Sanders, captured the bronze with 17.59m.
