Nastia Liukin Wins Women’s Gymnastics Gold
American gymnast, Nastia Liukin, took home the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics all-around competition while her teammate, Shawn Johnson, finished with silver. China’s Yang Yilin claimed bronze.
It was an exciting event tonight and it all ended up coming down to the floor exercise. Liukin performed exquisitely and finished with an overall score of 63.325, a half point ahead of Johnson. It was an emotional moment for Liukin whose father, Valeri Liukin, was a double gold medallist for the Soviet Union 20 years ago.
Congratulations to all of the competitors!
