C1 1000 (men)
Hungarian Attila Vajda (3:50.467) won the gold medal in the men’s canoe single (C1) 1000m final while David Cal of Spain (3:52.751) took the silver and Canadian Thomas Hall (3:53.653) won the bronze medal.
C2 1000 (men)
Christian Gille and Thomasz Wylenzek of Germany took an early lead and expanded on it but the race was far from over! Andrei and Aliaksandr Bahdanovich of Belarus picked up the pace in the last few metres and actually passed the Germans and clinched the gold medal (the Germans were awarded the silver medal)! It was crazy exciting!
Hungarians Gyorgy Kozmann and Tamas Kiss claimed the bronze. The victory was particularly emotional for Kozmann, I’m sure, since his long-time partner, died suddenly during a training session a few weeks before the Games began.
