Japan Wins Softball Gold
They said the American softball team couldn’t be beaten. Their last defeat was in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. In fact, one of the reasons cited for discontinuing softball as an Olympic sport was that the United States dominated the sport too much. Japan must not have gotten that memo.
In one of the most surprising upsets of the entire Beijing Olympic Games, Japan topped the United States 3-1 for the softball Gold Medal Thursday afternoon. The United States were favored to win the Gold Medal as they had in the previous three Olympic contests.
Australia won their match on Wednesday for the Bronze Medal.
