Is There an "A Shot a Glory" Olympic Curse?

I was over on Yahoo Sports and spotted an article about a possible curse (I know, I giggled a bit too) associated with the miniseries “A Shot at Glory.”  Of the eleven athletes profiled, six have had disastrous experiences at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.  Need examples?  Here we go:

  • The biggest shock was when runner Tyson Gay (pictured above) failed to even qualify for his events.  Sure, he injured his leg at the Olympic trials but he said that it was feeling 100% in Beijing and that he had no excuse
  • Wallace Spearmon ran the finals in the 200m and placed in the medals but was disqualified after it was learned that he had crossed into a competitor’s lane.
  • Wrestler Daniel Cormier dropped out after being hospitalized for kidney failure just hours after weigh-in.
  • Boxer Gary Russell Jr. actually passed out while trying to make weight and was forced to withdraw from the Games.
  • Mere minutes before the qualifiers, gymnast Samantha Peszek sprained her ankle which prevented her from competing in anything but a single performance on the uneven bars.
  • Swimmer Kate Ziegler, once believed to be a medal contender, failed to make the finals in any of her events.

What do you think?  Is there such thing as an Olympic curse?
