First Day Olympic Football Results
The first Olympic competitions began quietly today with the women’s preliminary football (soccer) matches. Below are the day’s results. The only upset of the day was Norway’s 2-0 win over the United States team.
There are 12 teams for each the men’s and women’s competitions in the Olympics. Each team plays three games in the preliminary round, with the winner of each of the three groups, the runner-ups, and the best two third place finishers advancing to the quarterfinal (elimination) round.
