Beijing Closing Factories for Olympics
Well, I guess something more needs to be done to curb pollution and improve air quality in China during the Olympic games this summer. As a last ditch effort, USA Today is reporting that the Environmental Protection Bureau has promised that “all digging and pouring of concrete on construction sites will be suspended from July 20-Sept. 20.”
I have nothing against China but I am starting to really question the wisdom of holding the games in Beijing. Political problems aside, athletes go through a lot to protect their bodies. Any time the International Olympic Committee has to announce that they will postpone outdoor endurance events of more than one hour if the air quality is poor seems a bit ridiculous to me.
I guess we will just have to wait and see how it all unfolds but it seems awfully unfair to the athletes.
