The Philippines Gets To Watch The Olympics!
The announcement regarding the awarding of broadcast rights of the upcoming 2008 Beijing Games and the succeeding Games on 2010 in Vancouver, and on 2012 in London by the IOC to Solar Entertainment signals the increased awareness by Filipinos living in the Philippines of the Olympic Games.
The country, sad to say, is not well-aware of the events surrounding and during the Olympic Games simply because we don’t get to watch it on TV that much let alone watch it live. The Filipinos aren’t that big when it comes to patronising sports that are not popular or highly commercialised.
Give us NBA anytime, I’m quite certain that a large percentage of the educated masses know of the league but in terms of TV content, it’s currently littered with variety shows and soaps, not much sports in it.
This opportunity will help the country be informed and even support the Philippine delegates. It can somehow guarantee a spot in the national news of major TV stations. We will finally bring the Olympic movement into the country, perhaps make it stronger, thus, support for athlete training for future Olympics will increase. The country will no longer feel detached when it comes to the Olympic Games.
This is great news for the country. Kudos to Solar Entertainment for endeavouring to bring the Olympic Games to the TV sets of Philippine households.
Brilliant! Simply brilliant news for me! Yes. It’s because I actually live in the Philippines AND I manage an Olympic blog. Heh.

Actually, Solar doesn’t “broadcast”, they “distribute” via cable. To broadcast would be great, as many more would be able to view for free, “over the air.” As it is now, it’s for those only with cable access.

Natalie Coughlin is half Pinay. Does she qualify for the 15M pesos incentive for winning a gold? Maybe 7.5M dahil half Pinay lang.
