The Buzz on London 2012’s Logo
When I wrote about the London 2012’s new brand (new logo), and expressed what I thought about it, I didn’t really expect that it (the news about their branding strategy) would create such a stir in the blogosphere. You should read most of what they’re saying about London 2012 brand!
General opinion ranges from (an expected) complaint on the Logo design to direct lambasting of the motivation behind the branding strategy that it rendered me speechless.
I had one reader tell me (offline) that he particularly liked the Logo basically because of its freshness and originality while I shared that I prefer that they stuck with a design that can be timeless. After all, it will serve as London’s contribution to the Olympic history and in turn will be a legacy in itself. Though, I understand the need to find an original look that will cater to the modern times but it’ll look too cheesy for an institution like the Olympics to sport (no pun intended) the “wet floor look” simply to let patrons and the general audience — tech enthusiasts, in particular — know that they can be “Web 2.0″, won’t it?
Granted that they simply want to bring a younger crowd in, create an awareness and distinction from past Games, but this is somewhat close to selling out. Well, that’s my personal opinion.
I’ve got to hand it to them, though. The 2012 London Games is still five years away and yet they’ve managed to create a buzz now even when we’re holding the Olympic Games in Beijing next year!
I can’t help but wonder how this thing will turn out. What do you think?
