Selänne says Stanley Cup is a tougher win than the Olympics

by Sasha Manuel on May 30th, 2007

To each his own, eh?

According to the SLAM! Sports article that I read, Teemu Selänne had claimed that winning the Stanley Cup is far better than winning a gold in the Olympics. Quite interesting.

To give him credit, he did say that “The Olympics is only one game for the gold. The Stanley Cup is 30 teams in the league and how much you play and how much you travel. You can go a long time without ever having a chance. And you can no longer just go out and find a team to win a Cup.”

He did raise a good point. But I wonder, wouldn’t a team need to qualify in order to play in the Olympics? Don’t the athletes play not for the money (ideally  ) but purely for the sport? Wouldn’t the Olympics mean higher a higher level of competition since the team WILL play against the world’s best hockey players?

I reckon Selänne should give the Olympic Games the credit due to it. That’s IMHO.
