Press Release: IOC to award 2007 Women & Sport Trophies
5 March 2007 - On International Women’s Day, 8 March 2007, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will award the 2007 Women and Sport Trophies at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.
Through the IOC Women and Sport Award, the IOC will pay tribute to six women who, thanks to their talents and actions in the field of sport, have contributed remarkably to society. These are women from around the world who have demonstrated the skills, knowledge and determination to take leading roles in policy development which ensure opportunities for inclusion. The IOC has made women’s participation on the field of play and on the policy boards a priority.
Participating in the event will be Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC, Anita DeFrantz, member and Chairwoman of the IOC Women and Sport Commission, Nawal El Moutawakel, member and Olympic gold medallist, and the members of the IOC Women and Sport Commission.
What:
Five continental trophies and one at world level will be awarded during the ceremony. The names of the winners will be communicated UNDER EMBARGO on 7 March.

About the trophy:
Established in 2000, the trophy is awarded annually to a person (former athlete, coach, administrator or journalist) or to an organisation in recognition of their outstanding contribution to developing, encouraging and strengthening the participation of women and girls in sports activities, in coaching, in administrative and sports leadership structures, as well as in the promotion of women’s sport in the media and of women journalists.
