London 2012’s New Brand: Dynamic, Modern, Flexible

Commenting on the new London brand, IOC President Jacques Rogge said, “This is a truly innovative brand logo that graphically captures the essence of the London 2012 Olympic Games - namely to inspire young people around the world through sport and the Olympic values.” He continued, “Each edition of the Olympic Games brings its own flavour and touch to what is now well over a century of modern Olympic history; the brand launched today by London 2012 is, I believe, an early indication of the dynamism, modernity and inclusiveness with which London 2012 will leave its Olympic mark.”

I have to agree that this new look is undoubtedly new and fresh in the eyes. It may not sit well with traditionalists, though, IMHO. But since the article had said — bottomline — it’s aiming for a sticky idea for the upcoming Games in London and they believe that this look will give them just that.
If you check out the London 2012 website, they even encourage enthusiasts to create designs in the form of collages in response to the question, “What does London 2012 mean to you?”
It’s a bold move, I should say. But we all have a good five years to see what will become of this branding strategy that they’ve managed to come up with.
Perhaps you guys have thoughts to share on the matter? Please do. :)
