Gymnastics World Cup Gold Medalist Dasha Joura, Australia’s Olympic Bet
Dasha Joura has put world championships disappointment behind her, becoming just the fourth Australian gymnast to win World Cup gold in a dominant display at the Stuttgart event.
The West Australian teenager took gold in her signature floor exercise event, silver on the uneven bars and bronze on the vault.
Joura, 17, scored 14.825 on the floor apparatus to claim her first ever World Cup crown.
Jade Barbosa (14.300) of Brazil was second with another Australian, Lauren Mitchell (14.150), third.
World champion Daniele Hypolito (13.775) of Brazil finished fifth.
Joura joins Phil Rizzo (high bar 2001-02, 2005), Jacqui Dunn (uneven bars 2001) and Allana Slater (floor 2002) as Australia’s only gymnasts to have recorded World Cup wins.

Good news to all Aussie supporters. A World Cup gold for 17 year old Australian gymnast Dasha Joura. This comes at a good time Esp after their disappointment on the world championships results for the women’s gymnastics team. This win at the Stuttgart event will help boost their morale. The training and quite possibly the remaining competitions they’ll be participating in the last months leading to the 2008 Olympics Games in Beijing will be a rigorous and might be passion-driven, respectively, since they should be inspired by this win.
Joura may need to be more ‘competitive savvy’, according to her coach, but they just might be a step closer to realising their Olympic dream.
I reckon Joura will be one athlete we should keep an eye on.
