U.S. Team eliminated from Team Pursuit Quarterfinals
American Speedskater Chad Hedrick’s hope of matching the 5 Gold Medals won by Eric Heiden at the 1980 Winter Olympics was dashed today when his team was eliminated from the quarterfinals of the Men’s Team Pursuit.
The American team of Chad Hedrick, KC Boutiette, and Charles Ryan Leveille led the race most of the way, but the Italian team crossed the finish line almost simultaneously, with Boutiette lagging 10 feet behind his teammates.

In the Team Pursuit event, the team wins when all members of the team have crosses the finish line.
The Italian team of Matteo Anesi, Stefano Donagrandi, and Enrico Fabris went on to lead the Team Pursuit event. Norway and the Netherlands were second and third respectively.
The Team Pursuit Finals will be held tomorrow (Feb. 16).
