Philippines’ Quest for Gold
First Olympic Gold.
Funny. I just had this conversation with my brother-in-law about the Philippines having won no Olympic Gold for like a looong time. I know we won Gold in Bowling [10-pin] but it’s not really considered in my country, I think. At least that’s what they’ve argued about during the last Olympics.
Now, they’ve set up the first ever National Unified Sports Program in the country. It is said to be patterned after the United States Olympic Committee and the one they have in China. The program was launched last Wednesday, 28 March 2006, together with the re-launching of the Philippine Sports Institute at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City. It will include Coach Education, Athlete’s Career Building and Sports Sciences.
I surely hope that it will help support the Philippine athletes. They deserve every opportunity and assistance that the government can give them especially since we now know what they are capable of after what they did during the 23rd South East Asian Games held last December 2005. The only logical next step is bringing their game to the Olympics.

I hope bowling and billiards must be included in 2012 as the bidding starts. Karate and golf are the front runners as baseball, softball and modern penthatlon are the last played in beijing.
