Life Ban for Drug Cheats

by Sasha Manuel on August 9th, 2006

The chairman of London 2012 Lord Seb Coe, who is also a member of the IAAF’s ruling council, proposes that any athlete who has been suspended for a doping offence should be banned from events such as the World Championships, the Grand Prix final, the World Cup and including the Olympics for the rest of their careers.

They are looking into getting the respective councils of these major sporting events to rally behind them in the effort to eradicate such unsportsmanlike conduct that has become prevalent in the sporting world.

“If the IAAF, EAA [European Athletic Association] and IOC agreed a person who fails a drugs test would not be available for any of these championships we would be very much in favour,” said David Moorcroft, the chief executive of UK Athletics.
