Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards
When I mentioned him in my post about Jonathan, I immediately set a course in finding more about Eddie’s story. Yes. I had no idea who he was. Well — not the whole story, that is.
Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards, real name: Michael Edwards, is the world’s favourite ski-jumper even though he only ranked 55th in the world in ski jump.
According to Wikipedia, he was the first to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team in Olympic Ski jumping in the last 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
Writing this post will bring back a lot of memories to people who followed his story back then. In my readings, I also came across a bit of information about the Jamaican bobsled team who competed in the same Olympics. Them, I know from the film, Cool Runnings.
Anyway, Eddie is now studying to be a lawyer and if my sources are correct, we can expect a movie made of his life. He even expressed that he hopes that Ewan McGregor plays him in the movie. Now, I’d watch it if Ewan is in it. Hahaha.
Stories of the underdogs are so heartwarming, huh?
