Cricket in the 1900 Paris Games
Like I mentioned before, Cricket was once part of the Olympic roster of sports but little did I know that it was only by chance that it was included, even the Cricketers themselves weren’t aware that they were playing for the Olympics then.
During the 1900 Paris Games, it was decided that Cricket will be part of the programme. Actually, in the 1896 Athens Games, it should’ve been part of it, too, but was later on scrapped since they lack participants but during the 1900 Universal Exposition, Holland [the Netherlands], France, Great Britain and Belgium were expected to compete. Holland and Belgium pulled out leaving France and Great Britain to face each other in a 2-day game, where the latter won.
Like I said, they weren’t aware that they’re playing for the Olympic gold since it was only during the year 1912 when the IOC met to come up with a definitive list as to what would consist the original events in the first five Modern Olympiads.
