Australia’s largest Winter Olympics team
The 2006 Australian Winter Olympic Team is the largest ever to compete for Australia. This team has 40 athletes, 22 males and 18 females - and that’s the most females we’ve ever sent too.
Twenty-nine of these athletes have never been to an Olympic Games before.
Apparently Australia has qualified in 10 of the possible 15 sports - twice as many as in Salt Lake in 2002. We failed to qualify for Curling (nobody in Australia understands this sport anyway!), Long Track Speed Skating (we don’t have enough ice for a practice track) or Ice Hockey (but we rule at field hockey !!). We don’t compete in Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping.
We do expect to win medals at the Winter Olympics: aerials - Lydia Ierodiaconou; freestyle moguls - Dale Begg-Smith; and snowboard halfpipe – Torah Bright are apparently our best chances.

You’re hopeful given last time was the first time we ever scored a gold medal, and one was because the rest of the field fell over :-)
Is Alysia Caplin competing again…now that’s one nice looking snow bunny :-)

Aylsia (if I have the right person) did her knee about 6-10 months ago and actually had a transplant of part of the knee and I believe she is up and running.
On Steve Bradbury, he won it fair and square!
