Australia Wins the Third Test — Sweep, baby!

by Sasha Manuel on April 5th, 2006

For a quick trackback, Australia won the opening Test by seven wickets and sealed the series with a 112-run triumph last week. The last victory completed a 3-0 sweep and the top-ranked team’s eighth win in 11 series on South African soil.

It was a tense match till the last partnership, Brett Lee and Michael Kasprowicz walked up to bat. But they survived the fast-bowling onslaught that South Africa laid down on them.

Damien Martyn scored a century and one, 13 of which were fours, which makes it the 13th century of his career, after facing 208 balls.

Lee was named Man of the Match for his incredible performance of scoring 24 with 8 wickets down. It was admirable how he handled the stress. Stuart Clark was named Man of the Series for taking 20 wickets in his first three Tests.

Fantastic win by the Australian Cricket Team.

Note:
I know this entry seems terribly out of place but please humour me. I love cricket. It’s not included in the Olympics or Commonwealth Games and the Cricket World Cup doesn’t come around till 2007. Arrrggh. Bear with me.
